A special guest-mix series where DJs are invited to create a soundtrack for tomorrow's days. Next up: French born but Amsterdam-based deep digger C.R.A.C.K.E.N.
Every Mixed Feelings podcast is accompanied by a few questions that provide a little insight to the DJ and the mix they've prepared for us and for you.
Which feelings do we find bottled in this mix?
Confinement? Let's say that this mix is representing a strong urge for vast spaces and discovery. Definitely, what's awaiting us outside our dear planet is the broadest place to explore. I've tried to show what this journey would sound like from the Folk grounds of Earth to the silent emptiness of deep space. I've been yearning for less club mixes as they usually frustrate me more than anything else with the current climate. This mix is for the Trip and I hope it'll carry you listeners to a brighter day!
What message does the music you play convey?
The C.R.A.C.K.E.N. is a beast born in hatred and war, abandoned by its own people before it was even born. The legend I wrote has the Giant Octopus roaming space in search of meaning and understanding. Its first reflex is obviously to fall down the path of Its ancestors, destruction and chaos engineered by a lack of understanding. It's only when the Mighty Squid found music and the feeling of sharing more than useless material trinkets that Its search for completion was reached. The allegory is strong here and I think it represents many a journey that people have experienced. Love will prevail!
How is the mix reflecting your current music taste?
It does not (laughs). Those are records I've collected over the years and have rarely had the chance to play. I wanted to put out an after hours mix that would ravish your ears at late (or early hour) following a long night (or day!). Lately, I mostly dig into the early 90's progressive house bit, between trance, acid, breaks and house. This is how much I miss a party!
Who should release a new album/EP already?
On the groovy side, Space Grapes is continuously ripping the scene to shreds with their new releases, I can't wait to see what they have in store.
On the clubby side, I'd say Bliss Inc. is my favorite producer at the moment, this dude is a genius. We need more of his releases!
If the mix would be a soundtrack, what (kind of) movie/video/audio-visual content would support it best?
Definitely a movie following the adventures of the Mighty Octopus. I would see it in the Captain Future old manga style. I have had a deep love for anime & comics since my teen years as I feel that they offer the most space for imagination. Hope you enjoy the trip!
