Mixed Feelings | Edseven

A special guest-mix series where DJs are invited to create a soundtrack for tomorrow's days. Next up: Sydney-based DJ/producer Edseven.

Every Mixed Feelings podcast is accompanied by a few questions that provide a little insight to the DJ and the mix they've prepared for us and for you.

Which feelings do we find bottled in this mix?

This mix is for swaying hips and hopes that the dance is slowly returning. Opens with some introspective soul jams (a few I wrote myself during ISO).. then picks up as the floor fills.. disco, boogie, afro, bruk.

What message does the music you play convey?

I suppose I do my best to weave between the various styles I love rather than stay in one lane.. find a common palette of sound and paint a picture, highlight links between songs and layer things to create something new.

How is the mix reflecting your current music taste?

I think over the last 18 months we’ve all looked more inward so the opening tracks are some that have been lighting up my space... Smoky soul / RNB.. Beautiful chords and sparkling delay trails.. then moving into more percussion heavy vibes.

Who should release a new album/EP already?

I might be biased given I do a radio show with him but Steve Spacek! I’m lucky enough to hear so much unreleased heat from Steve.. get ready!

If the mix would be a soundtrack, what (kind of) movie/video/audio-visual content would support it best?

A slow-motion dance scene in a Japanese Jazz Kissa (listening bar)... dim lights, whiskey, wood furniture and 1970s hifi..

Thank you Steppin' Into Tomorrow for featuring my release with Tan Brown! More music coming soon including a jam with Steve Spacek on vocals and the mighty Kid Sublime on keys...

I've snuck a pre-release version in this mix ;) (out on CoOpr8 later this year).
