Mixed Feelings | J. Raise, Jr

A special guest-mix series where DJs are invited to create a soundtrack for tomorrow's days. Next up: J. Raise, Jr, a beatmaker/music producer from Fasano, Italy and co-founder of Resilienza Records. His music is defined by timeless grooves and meticulously syncopated rhythms. A very strong hip-hop attitude deeply infected by the complexity of jazz and broken beat, moved by the sweetness of soul music. Having lived in the Netherlands for 5 years, it was a matter of time before he'd bless us with a laidback mix like this.

Every Mixed Feelings podcast is accompanied by a few questions that provide a little insight into the DJ and the mix they've prepared for us and for you.

Which feelings do we find bottled in this mix?

This mix to me is Hip Hop from start to finish. Some might not realise, but Hip Hop lives in every genre and keeps inspiring them all, contributing to their creative evolution.

What message does the music you play convey?

Love is...

How is the mix reflecting your current music taste?

There is a connection between simplicity and complexity in music, and that's where my taste lands and reflects the most. A complex musical composition often comes out of the most simplistic attitude. In my own musical journey, I always wanted to be innovative pushing myself and my samplers to unexplored territories, through a classic approach.

This mix includes it all.

Who should release a new album/EP already?

Georgia Anne Muldrow ... been waiting!!

What is magical about music?

Music takes me to places that are physically unachievable.

What is your main source for finding new music?

Crate digging

If the mix would be a soundtrack, what (kind of) movie/video/audio-visual content would support it best?

1. 'Brasilintime' documentary (by Mochilla). In the mix, I played one track from the vinyl issue of this documentary

2. Sun Ra's film 'Space is The Place'

... those cosmic rays !!!
