A special guest-mix series where DJs are invited to create a soundtrack for tomorrow's days. Next up: Rotterdam-based vocalist, producer & DJ Sykes.
Every Mixed Feelings podcast is accompanied by a few questions that provide a little insight to the DJ and the mix they've prepared for us and for you.
Which feelings do we find bottled in this mix?
I always tend to put a lot of warmth in my mixes, I love songs/tracks that hit me with emotion for example the Floating Points track every time that high synth note hits it gives me goosebumps all over.
What message does the music you play convey?
The message I want to share with people with the music I play is how beautiful music can be. I want to convey the feeling I have when I listen to new music that I really love, and I hope that people who listen to the mix maybe discover new artists and experience music in a different kind of way, sounds they maybe have never heard before. And the best thing would be to inspire people, maybe to make their own music or in any other form.
How is the mix reflecting your current music taste?
The mix is a melting pot of my own feelings nowadays, I listen and make a lot of slow and orchestral music lately, maybe because of the situation we're in with no clubbing etc. but at the end I wanted to put some uptempo house and broken as a desire to the clubs and parties that we hopefully can enjoy soon again.
Who should release a new album/EP already?
I’m really looking forward to the Hiatus Kaiyote album, its been a long time since the Choose Your Weapon album and the first single they released 'Get Sun' is very promising.
If the mix would be a soundtrack, what (kind of) movie/video/audio-visual content would support it best?
If the mix would be used as a soundtrack for a movie I would go for the Pixar movie Soul haha, I really liked it and I think its very important that children get in toch with soul and jazz music at a young age learning where it origins lays and for a animation movie for children the message was pretty deep.
