PREMIERE: Chris Read Remix of Edseven & Tan Brown - 'I Need You To' feat. Phat Kat

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

London based DJ, producer & mixtape legend Chris Read is about to drop a remix album 'Inner Tribe Records Remixed' and we got the scoop for you with an exclusive listen of the first single before its official release this Friday.

Chris Read

The first track to get Chris' special remix treatment was originally produced by the Sydney-based producer Edseven featuring New York vocalist Tan Brown and Detroit rapper Phat Kat. Their beautiful sultry number 'I Need You To' was featured on the MGIC EP, the title track of which we also premiered here last year.

Chris Read's anniversary mixtapes for WhoSampled , where he's also the Head of Content, and Wax Poetics, are what got us hooked some years back. The most played mixes from these series have seen close to 1.5 million streams. However, the lifelong collector of hip hop, funk, soul, boogie, jazz, and related beats has also got some seriously dope productions up his sleeve. Previously releasing music for BBE Records (some-time home to artists including Roy Ayers, Madlib and J Dilla), Inner Tribe, Sony & Universal, Chris’ discography includes 4 studio albums, 10 compilation albums plus an extensive catalogue of singles and remixes for a list of imprints. Especially famous is THE DIARY (World's Greatest Rap Megamix) from 2007, which is a chronological mix of the rap's landmark recordings by order of release from 1979-2007 with 801 records in the blend(!)

Artists who Chris has produced and remixed include Grammy Award-winning vocalists Bilal and Algebra Blessett, Juno Award winner Kardinal Offishall, Mercury Award nominee Mark Rae, BBC New Music Award winners Maylight and West Coast rap icons The Pharcyde.

On the upcoming 'Inner Tribe Records Remixed' release with some stunning artwork by mumptown, you can expect some more soulful Edseven flips and remixes of tracks by Adelaide based acts like Inkswel, Planetself, Dream Crews with features such as Ohmega Watts, Steve Spacek, Yarah Bravo, and more, to name a few, so you already know there's definitely lots to look forward to! Be ready for a journey through a variety of flavors on here. Chris Read is a real one.

The full album drops April 8th via the Australian Inner Tribe Records, so make sure to stay tuned and keep your ears out. Now, without any further ado, enjoy the tune below:
