The current generation of bruk heads in the UK continue to team-up and expand its universe. Cassé Records is run by Bristol-based producer Haze City and he got Szajna from Manchester on board for their forthcoming single.
Szajna (pronounced Shy-Na) is a Manchester-based music producer and DJ who has been holding multiple DJ residencies across the city for over 12 years now. His productions have got him noticed outside of the Manchester scene gaining popularity amongst the London movement. This led to him being officially invited to join the Selectors Assemble crew, a team of like-minded producers & DJ's assembled by the legendary IG Culture. Since then Szajna has had multiple releases on labels such as CoOp Presents, Dance Regular, Phuture Shock Music & Eclectic Beats. You can catch him on his monthly Reform Radio show Alga-Rhythms', as well as appearances on CoOp Presents' show on Worldwide FM and Dance Regular's show on Netil Radio.
Bristol-native Haze City has been making music for over 20 years, but it was only 3 years ago that he started recording tracks under this moniker so he could explore his love for the broken beat sound. Early releases gained support from influential DJs and producers in the scene including IG Culture, EVM 128, Shy One and Simbad. He has now had music released on Super Sonic Jazz, Co Op Presents, Dance Regular, Boogie Cafe Records and his own imprint Cassé Records.
The rhythm of the forthcoming single might be "nothing new", as the title suggests, but it does continue the legacy of the first generation and executed tastefully in my opinion. Bouncy clavinet, crispy syncopated snares, plenty of low end sub bass, nicely picked vocal samples ("It's quite obvious that it is danceable music") and a catchy recurring trumpet phrase are the cornerstones of this vibing joint. We're extremely excited how vibrant todays scene is. Broken beat has been here for about 25 years now and it only continues to expand.
'Nothing New' will be out on all digital platforms Sept 1st via Cassé Records.
Steppin' Into Tomorrow stands with artists & labels and encourages listeners to support by buying their music directly from bandcamp.
